There goes one week of my 3 mths course as a Medic Trainee

Things can get either really fun or really boring, but overall im having a good time there

My new bunkmates are a bunch of awesome people too 8D I am amazed at the variety of people there ranging from paramedics to commandos! Got people from Brunei army also

Because I have a mild background in anatomy&physiology and pathology, things are actually not that difficult for me so far. But I can so totally imagine myself screwing up the practical test because Im always so panicky

/INSERTS SCENE FROM SITUATIONAL TEST IN BMT PERIOD:

Assessor: "Check to see if the stretcher is tied along with the casualty (a dummy) with the toggle rope."

Me: "o ok. (/FLIPS THE WHOLE STRETCHER 180 DEGREES DAMN QUICKLY) YEP IT'S TIED! /FLIPS IT BACK"

Assessor: ".... you just killed the casualty"

And about the terrifying horrifying iv injection that people are talking about, its indeed something to be scared over. The correct term to call it would be IV cannulation. Where a cannula (around the size of a yakult straw, but smaller of course)

is inserted into the skin

So you see this is an IV cannula. It has a needle that protrudes out of the cannula, the needlewill prick into the skin (and then LOWERED to be parallel to skin) so that the cannula can be inserted into the vein. The cannula is then inserted completely into the vein until it touches this Butterfly look-alike part, while the needle is detached from it. DOES IT SOUNDS PAINFUL? XDD But its so interesting to me. The needle has an auto close mechanism so it will close up itself after detaching the needle so u wont get pricked!

I did a practice on a false arm already (the arm is damn hugee.) The real arm practice is next friday. I found my buddy already! hohoho, and hes also from NP. (Though i think 4 ppl in my bunk are from NP alr) Other stuff i learned are like bandagings and how to use certain equipments which are all so interesting to me somehow XDDD but i dont tink i will ever use them though

We also had a safety talk from various people because one of the day is my company's special day. So we were told of many cases of injuries, including those strange and funny ones.

LIKE:

1. Doings dips between 2 cupboards with the ceiling fan on. So that guy got his head injured

2. Reviewing test answers during a theory test when he dislocated his shoulders (i really wonder how)

3. Talking too excitedly until he smashed his hands against a wall when making hand actions

There are some scary ones also, but i only rmb this case where a medic trainee was approached for help in malaysia to give assistance to someone who need first aid. He followed the stranger and the stranger actually attacked the trainee, inflicting head injuries on him

NOT THAT NICE TO BE A GOOD SAMARITAN AFTER ALL D:

I really need to start exercising though because I have been slacking in terms of pt since the bmt ended .__________.

And off i go back to camp!
